Our first night at a brauerei, or pub. I put this off far too long, because I’m
truly terrified of embarrassing myself with my language skills (or lack
thereof). In Germany, you just seat
yourself at most restaurants. There was
one uncomfortable moment when the waitress asked if she should close the window
behind me, and I just stared at her with a blank look on my face; but then I
said “Mein Deutch ist nicht
gut” and she laughed along. The food was
excellent. Did you know that peppercorns
could be served green and soft? I
didn’t. It adds a lovely spice to dishes
without that unfortunate peppercorn crunch.
We (accidentally) ordered two beers, which came in large
glasses (don’t know the exact size, bigger than a pint, for sure!). Delicious, not bitter, with just a slight
kick. We polished them both off.
