Around Town Randoms

I'm cleaning out my cache of pictures from our various wanderings around town.

In these two, we were in Bamberg's Old Town, where the streets are much narrower:

There are many paths along the river and canal which surround the main island which is the center of town.

This is our favorite ice cream shop.  The folks weren't super friendly until we learned how to ask for ice cream in German and then they started to thaw (pun intended).  Surprisingly, ordering ice cream was not part of any of our language courses (and difficult to find online) so it was trial and error.

"Zwei Kugeln im Becher" is two scoops in a bowl, and "Ein Kugel im Waffel" gets you a scoop with a waffle cone.

One night, we were in here fumbling our way through ordering, and the waitress, probably college-age, asked where we were from.  She had been laughing to herself through most of our order, and when we told her we were from America, she said, "I just think the American accent is so cute!"

Well, I guess we're not quite good enough yet to be convincing locals!

Over the canal, there is a newer bridge which somebody decided would be a good place to hang a padlock.  It caught on:

And, this is St. Otto's, down the street from us.  You can see the spire in the second picture on the left hand side.  It's quite an imposing church.
